Multiple reports of people across the world taking the use of steel storage units to new heights have been rife in recent years. Re-designed concepts are proposing that some steel storage units could be used as a house.
A clearly interesting idea, but it’s not the only quirky use for storage units!
Interesting Transformations
Take a look at the below five interesting steel storage unit transformations:
1. Homes for the Homeless
In 2017, a man from Bristol initiated a project to help the homeless, which aimed to transform pre-owned storage containers into self-contained shelters for homeless people.
With the generous help of his existing tradesmen contacts and several contributions from local businesses and institutions, Jasper Thompson fully converted the unit, which has the capability of homing five individuals each night.
2. Art Studio
Whilst there have been cases of individuals purchasing dis-used storage containers to park in their garden as an artist’s studio, there has also been a universal interest spreading across the world of art for steel storage units.
This is due to the GAD Gallery in Norway, which is homed entirely in steel shipping containers.
The concept behind the unique gallery stems from the need to construct and deconstruct the gallery with ease and efficiency and allows it to be transported throughout the world, should it need to be.
The unusual design has proved influential, with two other ‘container galleries’ opening in London and Tokyo respectively.
3. Farm
A woman in Nigeria has transformed the way that she runs her business whilst simultaneously changing the way that she uses her storage containers.
Oluwayimika Angel Adelaja runs a farm, yet was finding the rising costs of transport too much to bear.
Instead of watching her hard work dissipate, Adelaja decided to trial an entirely new method of production – growing all of her produce inside a shipping container, closer to the centre of the city.
The two storage containers can produce the equivalent of two acres of produce annually, and run using sustainable-only methods.
4. Gym
In recent years, the fitness industry has been adapted to suit current economic requirements.
One of these changes targets the accessibility of gyms for a wider selection of individuals, and a fitness operator based in Leeds has designed a concept which could change the fitness world indefinitely.
The brains behind the company TRIB3 collaborated with architects and design teams to produce gyms which are completely contained in storage units.
This means that the facilities can be transported, with the intentions of targetting local parks, schools and open spaces across the UK.
5. Mobile Shops
Pop up shops are nothing new; a business rents a facility for an agreed temporary amount of time to push their business.
However, previously, businesses have been restricted in terms of location. With the initiation of small businesses and shops being integrated into storage containers, the units are fully transportable, meaning that independent businesses can alter their location whenever demand deems fit.
In addition, low overhead costs and flexibility make this idea an attractive one.
Whilst we can’t promise a home, art studio, farm, gym or small business success, we can provide high-quality steel containers across the UK.
